What does it actually cost to hire a branding and marketing agency?
We get some version of this question on almost every first call.
"So what would this cost? Agency fees, ad spend, all of it?"
Fair question. And we'd rather answer it straight than make you sit through a pitch to find out.
You're paying for three different things
Most proposals blur the fact that you're paying for three different things. If you don't separate them, you can't compare anyone's quote to anyone else's.
The thinking
Discovery, positioning, messaging, identity. This is usually one-time. It decides what you say and who you say it to, and it's the piece most people try to skip. Our Brand Sprint covers it in about eight weeks.
The doing
Content, social, campaign management, reporting. This is monthly. It's where the brand shows up week after week. Our Content Engine, for example, turns one monthly shoot into a month of videos.
The fuel
Your ad budget. That money goes to Meta or Google, not to us. It's usually paired with a management fee, which we break down in another article.
When we build a proposal, we put those three on separate lines. One-time vs. recurring. What we keep vs. what goes to the platforms.
The real question
But "what does it cost" usually isn't the real question.
The real question is "what am I going to get back, and how fast?"
That's the one we want to answer. If we can't tie what you're spending to something that matters to your business, like leads, booked tours, pre-sales, or donors, we shouldn't be sending you a proposal.
All three working together
Ten Boom Coffee is a good example of all three buckets working together. The identity was the one-time piece: a mark and palette that carry Corrie ten Boom's story without getting heavy. Then it became ongoing growth work. Organic content built the community, paid campaigns tested which parts of the story actually got people to buy, and email turned the launch spike into repeat customers. The launch event drove immediate sales and a measurable lift in web traffic and social. Every dollar had a job.
That's how our Agency of Record partnerships work: one team handling brand, content, social, and ads, with one monthly fee and ad spend billed separately. Start a conversation and we'll show you all three buckets for your business on one page.
